Yu-Gi-Oh! Reverse Foil Error Misprint Secret Rares

Reverse Foil Error Misprint Secret Rares

Out of all the various unique & fascinating misprints with which Konami has ‘blessed’ the English Yu-Gi-Oh trading card game, Reverse Foil Error Secret Rare Misprints are probably the most infamous misprints that people tend to associate with vintage Yu-Gi-Oh! cards.

Reverse foil error misprint cards can be identified by the lines which make up their secret rare foil pattern, which run in the opposite direction of the standard pattern - hence the name ‘reverse foil’. Instead of running from the top right of the card’s artwork to the bottom left, the reverse foil pattern lines run from top left to bottom right. This is understood to have been a factory error that occurred at the time of production during the printing and manufacturing process, though this has never been officially confirmed by Konami or Upper Deck.

These reverse foil error misprint cards could almost exclusively be found in the original Booster Pack Tins released in the United States in 2002. These misprints could either be pulled as reverse foil secret rare BPT Promos OR as reverse foil secret rare original unlimited print foils pulled from the packs that came within the tin itself - which included 2 packs of Legend of Blue Eyes White Dragon (LOB), 2 packs of Metal Raiders (MRD), and a single pack of Magic Ruler (MRL).

Other reverse foil error misprint secret rares can sometimes be pulled from specific printings of sets like Labyrinth of Nightmare (LON) - such as Gemini Elf and Magic Cylinder. Additionally, the Asian-English 1st Edition printings of sets from the Duel Monsters era of Yu-Gi-Oh! Could also potentially contain reverse foil error misprints.

These unique and distinct misprints are not known to have been found in sets extending past the initial set releases for the Yu-Gi-Oh! trading card game into the GX era.
